Sad, Sad Losses

Have you ever noticed that alot of people have been passing away recently? Oe maybe not recently, maybe a long time ago and people may not get ovet the loss of them? Well, I've noticed alot of people, whether it be historical figures, people in the entertainment industry or others, have had some pass away unexpectedly, or from other reasons. Here are some of those people.......

Ritchie Valens. May 13, 1941-February 3, 1959. He was the first ever noted Latino rocker. He was the one behind was is known as Chicano rock, meaning rock music performed by American people of Mexican ancestry. It's so sad that Ritchie died in a plane crash, but that cold night, he wasn't the only one to die, The Big Bopper and Buddy Holly also died that cold night. They all died on February 2, 1959, Ritchie was the youngest to die, at 17 years old. Their passing is what inspired folk singer Don McLean's 1971 hit American Pie. and now forever February 3 will be known as the day music died.

John Lennon. October 9, 1940-December 8, 1980. For all who listen to The Beatles, he was the one who was sometimes called a troublemaker by some, but ended up being a very loving person. He was the one who married the artist Yoko Ono and they had a son from Lennon's previous marriage to Cynthia, named Julian. For some reason, some might say he had a thing for Asian women because he dated May Pang, who was an assistant for ABKCO records. But there was no reason for John Lennon to die. On Dec. 8, 1980, he was brutally and fatally shot in the head 4 times outside his apartment in New York, by a crazed gunman named Mark David Chapman. Sadly, he was already dead before he hit the ground. The man behind his murder will be lucky if he ever gets out. I look up to John Lennon because he wasn't afraid to be himself, and he believed in giving peace a chance. I say, right on John! Yeah, give peace a chance!

Princess Diana. July 1, 1961-August 31, 1997. It's so sad that this beautiful woman is gone. Her wedding to Prince Charles actually made news headlines and everyone tuned in to watch this beautful woman walk down the aisle with her beautiful dress. It was so nice to see someone as pretty as her getting married. You want to know something sort of strange? One of her sons, William, recently got married too, to a beautiful woman named Kate Middleton. She's a beautiful woman, it's so nice to see someone getting married and not having it look so dramatic, what I mean by this is when celebs get marrie over here, it's such a big deal. But when people heard about the marriage of this man and this woman, it was big news in England and it was refreshing to hear about 2 good souls spending time together like this. I bet it must have been hard for both of Diana's sons, William and Harry, to be there at their mother's funeral. It's always hard for a child to be at their paren't funeral. But she's free of any pain or suffering, she's up in the beautiful land above, being the beautiful soul she always was. The saddest thing is that she died in a car crash, and you want to know why the crash happened? Princess Diana was trying to escape the nutso paparazzi, I swear, those jackasses always do whatever they can to terrorize someone, and now the world lost a beautful woman to these, pardon my French, assholes! That's what paparazzi are, assholes!

Jim Croce. January 10, 1943-September 20, 1973. This folk singer was 30 years old when he died and best known for hits like time in a Bottle and Bad, Bad Leroy Brown. Him, musician Maury Muehleisen and 4 others died in a plane crash that happened on Sept. 20, 1973. After finishing a concert at Northwestern State University's Prather Coliseum in Natchitoches Louisiana, the crew was flying to Austin Texas for a concert, when despite good visibility, the plane did not gain enough altitude to clear a pecan tree near the runway and the plane crashed, killing all 3 on impact
.

John Denver. December 31, 1943-Oct. 12, 1997. He was a country singer, and an avid pilot and photographer. He was most popular in the 1970s, and when he was flying his Rutan Long EZ plane, it crashed in to the Pacific Ocean, taking him with it and taking one of the best known country singers with it, despite having over 2700 hours of flying experience.

Martin Luther King Jr. January 5, 1929- April 4, 1968. This man was best known for his "I Have a Dream" speech in Washington D.C. This speech talked about uniting everyone together and about a world where skin color, race, religion, sexuality, etc didn't matter and about everyone coming together as one, which is a lyric from the song Imagine by John Lennon. Martin Luther King Jr was a nonviolent man, using the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi to spread the word about coming together as one, and he fought ever so desperately to end racial segregation and racial discrimination through civil means. He was staying in room 306 at the Lorraine Motel when he was standing on the balcony and he was shot. Nowadays, you can visit the motel where he was killed, but you can visit it today and see how the room looked before his murder. There was a man convicted of his death, James Earl Ray, he was charged and found guilty of his murder.

The reason I did a blog about those who have passed is we should never forget those who passed. Sometimes people take life for granted and before they know it, someone they love very dearly is passed away and they don't know it. We should live every day like it's our last and we should cherish the precious gift called life.

Favorite books

This is the book Farewell to Manzanar. For those who may have never read it or even heard of it for that matter, it's a memoir. It was written by a girl named Jeanne Wakatsuki, it's a memoir about how her and her family lived in California during WWII and how her family were sent to Manzanar Internment camp along with all the other Japanese citizens for being suspected spies. It's a very good book. I thouroughly enjoyed reading it in high school and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it a second time, so if you like memoirs, you may like this one. In the book, at the beginning it has a glossary of terms because there are words mentioned in here people amy not know the meaning of.

Accepting Yourself

I've noticed that over the years, people change. It's typical. If you're a girl and you're like 12 or 13, you might have liked all those boy bands like Basckstreet Boys, N*Sync, New Kids on the Block, etc.

When I was younger, I proudly admit that I went ga-ga or whatever word means crazy for the boy bands of the late 1990s, early 2000's. But as I got older, my tastes in alot of stuff began to change, like as time went forward, my taste in music, movies, fashion went backwards. What I mean by this is when I was in my senior year of high school, I was really beginning to get in to liking bands like The Mamas and the Papas, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, etc.

Also when I was younger, alot of the people I went to preschool with I pretty much went to school with for a good majority of my life, I got to see them grow up, and mature. But when we all got to senior year, I noticed that everyone was liking the same thing--rap music, baggy pants, girls dressing like borderline whores, white guys saying things like "Yo, what up Dog?" or "Hey, how's my homie?". Come on, no black person says that! I've noticed that almost everyone I graduated with liked the same thing. What happened to individuality? What happened to liking certain things that made you who you are? I guess it went out the window when they decided popularity was more important than individuality. Well, luckily for me, I will not give up being who I am to become popular. To hell with popularity! I like being the big tree-huggin hippie I am. I enjoy listening to my music you deem weird, and the cool thing is that the music people listen to today wouldn't be around if it wasn't for bands like The Beatles, from what I hear, this band inspired alot of bands.

I will not change who I am just to fit in. I'd rather be unique and unpopular than popular and blending in like a chameleon. I'd rather be the colored crayon in a world of gray crayons. I'm not going to sacrifice being who I am to fit in. And you want to know something I think is a little funny? I was never really able to connect with all my classmates, only a select few and it seems like I'm able to connect with adults more easily. I can make friends with adults a heck of a lot more easily than people my own age. You'd be surprised at alot of the friends I have on Facebook who are adults who like similar things I like. But overall, I will not sacrifice individuality to satisfy the needs of classmates, I will not change who I am to fit in! To hell with popularity, I just gotta be me! And if anyone of my classmates finds fault with this little philosophy of mine, and you want to be friends, to hell with ya! I'm not changing who I am just to make you happy, sorry bub, ain't gonna happen!

Song Lyrics

Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin
The reason I put these lyrics on here is because it's almost like every parent goes through feelings like this, when their kids grow up and move away and start their own lives.

My child arrived just the other day
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew
He'd say "I'm gonna be like you dad
You know I'm gonna be like you"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home dad?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

My son turned ten just the other day
He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today
I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok"
And he walked away but his smile never dimmed
And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

Well, he came home from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say
"Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head and said with a smile
"What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys
See you later, can I have them please?"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind"
He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time
You see my new job's a hassle and kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talking to you, Dad
It's been sure nice talking to you"

And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song by Jim Croce
The reason I put this one on is because it's such a beautiful, romantic song. It's about love, what could be more beautiful than pure, true love?

Well, I know it's kind of late
I hope I didn't wake you
But what I got to say can't wait
I know you'd understand
Ev'ry time I tried to tell you
The words just came out wrong
So I'll have to say I love you in a song
Yeah, I know it's kind of strange
But ev'ry time I'm near you
I just run out of things to say
I know you'd understand
Ev'ry time I tried to tell you
The words just came out wrong
So I'll have to say I love you in a song

[Instrumental Interlude]

Ev'ry time the time was right
All the words just came out wrong
So I'll have to say I love you in a song

Yeah, I know it's kind of late
I hope I didn't wake you
But there's something that I just got to say
I know you'd understand
Ev'ry time I tried to tell you
The words just came out wrong
So I'll have to say I love you in a song

Random thoughts/knighthood

Yeah, the title explains it all. Just random thoughts buzzing around. Somehow, the other night my dad got on to the topic of how one would go about receiving the prestigious honor of knighthood. Don't ask me how he got on to this topic, idk. But I did a little research and it says that in order to receive this prestigious honor, you have to make a contribution to arts and humanities in the name of England basically. Some think you can buy something like this, not really sure how that would happen, but you can't, you have to do it through good will and merit, doing a good contribution to arts and humanities and national life in the name of England, and alot of the people who received this honor weren't from England, but from places like Scotland, Ireland, etc. It can go to men, where they are called Sir or women, called Dame. It can be given to actors, musicians, scientists, you name it, the range is pretty big. Long ago, it was used for military, but nowadays, it is given to people who make contributions to arts and humanities and national life. Surprisingly, alot of the actors, actresses, musicians and other people we like may have received this totally awesome honor, people like:
Musicians
The Beatles-June 1965
Mick Jagger-Dec. 12, 2003
Elton John-Feb. 24, 1998
Paul McCartney-March 11, 1997
Bono-March 29, 2007

Actors
Michael Caine-2000
Roger Moore-June 14, 2003
Anthony Hopkins-1993
Sean Connery-2000
Patrick Stewart- July 3, 2010

Actresses
Julie Andrews
Maggie Smith
Lynn and Vanessa Redgrave
Judi Dench
Helen Mirren

Musicians
The Beatles
Mick Jagger
Oooh, black leather, looks good on him.......

Elton John

Paul McCartney. Love his music!!!!

Bono(OMG!!!!!!!! What a sexy hunk of Irish man!!!!)

Actors
Michael Caine

Roger Moore

Anthony Hopkins

Sean Connery(My favorite James Bond!)

Patrick Stewart
These are just some of the people who may have received this honor. Out of all the people in this pics, I'd have to say Bono, Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney and The Beatles are my faves.

Bullying

Ah yes, the topic of bullying. It seems to be a growing problem, everywhere you hear about some kid getting bullied for some God forsaken reason. Well, I'm pretty sure everyone might have been bullied at one point in their lives or other, for me, it was since grade school.

Since grade school, I was bullied. I was bullied because of my appearance. You see, I wear glasses alot, mainly because I need them to read and to work on the computer. People would often call me things like 4 eyes, coke bottles, which is actually quite stupid because coke bottles is a nickname for glasses with really thick lenses. People would also call me fatso, thunder thighs, bubble butt, fat a-- and other highly colorful names, mainly because I'm no skinny mini, yet I'm not fat either, I'm sort of in the middle with my body weight. I've actually been losing weight, so they can't call me fat, I just lost like 10 pounds, yay me!

I've also fallen victim to what I call social bullying, things like rumors being started, things being said behind my back, things being written on my locker, people breaking into my locker and stealing things from me, people switching the lock around so I'd be late to class, etc. People would take every opportunity they could get to make me feel useless, like a waste of space, etc, they would insult me at every chance they got, sometimes I felt like committing suicide because of it, but I didn't. That certainly wouldn't help the situation. So I had to just grin and bear the people calling me slut, whore, even though I've never slept with a guy in my life. I'm normally not one to talk about others when I say that half of the girls I went to school with were the REAL whores and sluts. People would often ask me personal questions that I didn't feel comfortable answering.

But, thank God in college people don't bully you. In college, it feels like I died and went to heaven-- no bullying, no making fun of, no insults, yeah! Heaven on earth, I swear! And when I was in high school, there was this one guy who was bound and determined to make my life a miserable hell. He was once my friend, he was once upon a time nice and sweet, until he got older and started acting like a racist bully. Yeah, I said racist. He is. Somehow, with out me saying a thing, he found out that I had a step dad. Yeah, for those who don't know, I have a stepdad, his name is Greg and he's of Italian descent. He's totally awesome. Alot of the stuff he likes I like, and it's kind of sad that I share more in common with him than anyone in my own family. But somehow, this kid found out about him and when I went to my locker to get my stuff to go home one day, I saw Italian racial slurs written all over my locker in bright red magic marker. Normally stuff like this never happened in my small high school, this was like a first. But, yeah, he wrote Italian racial slurs on my locker. I almost knocked his lights out for that, but violence is not the answer. I simply went to the assistant principal and asked him about what to do. Later on, he called the guy in and gave him like a month of detention. Serves him right! This may sound more like something racial related, but you don't mess around with my family. When you do something like this, it's racial bullying and I don't like it!
